  • Problems Losing Active Status on Amicus Files

Do you have problems with disappearing checkboxes in the Active status field?

There is a very simple explanation for this. Select File - Preferences, and click on the Dailies tab. In the Files section, the first checkbox is the culprit! If any Team Member selects this checkbox, any files that do not have activity for the number of days listed will lose the Active status. This means that these files are only visible if you click on the 'All' tab in the Files index.

The resolution is to go to every workstation and make sure that this checkbox is not checked. Then make sure that ALL Team Members know not to check this box again in the future.

Amicus, WordPerfect and Word Courses - June

We have 3 open enrollment courses on our training schedule for the month of June, 2005. We are sponsoring "Word 2003 Master Series", a 5-day intensive class for help desk, trainers and support staff. This course promises to bring a wealth of knowledge to those attending.

On June 2, we are offering the Amicus Attorney Step By Step course, which will teach new users the basic features of Amicus Attorney.

On June 21, we are offering a WordPerfect Tips & Tricks course, which is designed for WordPerfect users who use Versions 8-12. This course will teach you some of the new features and allow you to become more familiar with the advanced formatting and time-saving features that WordPerfect has to offer.

We will send out a monthly training schedule with a variety of courses. Listed below are some of the courses we will schedule for future months:

    • WordPerfect for Law Firms
    • Word for Law Firms
    • Word Tips & Tricks
    • Introduction to Word

    • Amicus Attorney Administrator
    • Using Your Palm PDA

    Online Training and Support

We now offer online training and support - to any of our existing clients. We use GoToMyPC, a great software tool that provides easy online access to another user's computer. When you need help, you simply call us, and we give you simple steps to register your computer so that we can log in and help you with a problem, or conduct a training session.

We charge an hourly rate for online training and consulting, and there is no added cost to use our GoToMyPC license. However, once you see how easy the software is to use, you may consider purchasing your own license. You can set up GoToMyPC on your computer at the office and access it remotely from any other computer.

Working with Documents Related to a File

Do you use the feature in Amicus that allows you to attach files to the brad page of an Amicus file? If so, do users remember to attach every document that is created to the brad of every Amicus file (matter)?

Chances are that your answer is no. Many Amicus users assume that the list of documents on the brad is the complete list - as you can see, this is not always true.

We have been recommending a different method of attaching files to an Amicus brad to many of our clients - attaching folders. There are many pros to this method - the biggest is that users don't have to remember to attach every file, and as long as they save the file in the appropriate folder, the link on the Amicus File brad will always take them to the entire list of files.

You can find more information about all of the pros and cons of linking folders or individual files to an Amicus file in our version 5.5 training manual - on page 5-33.
